The National Center for Rural Road Safety has developed a road safety certificate program for people working in transportation, public health, and first responder agencies.
This program is designed to provide a detailed overview of road safety knowledge and culminates in a Road Safety Champion Certificate. As of January 2026, we offer all seven core modules needed to complete your Road Safety Champion certificate.
This module introduces safety trends and the national safety vision. Understand the basics of road safety and the importance of prioritizing safety in your community.
Learn about human factors in road safety. This module covers how road users interact with their environment and how to incorporate these insights into safety practices.
Discover the elements that shape traffic safety culture. This module explains how to promote positive safety behaviors and improve road safety culture.
Get an introduction to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). This module covers the standards for traffic signs, road markings, and signals
This training will discuss the need for transportation, public health, and law enforcement agencies to work together on the road to zero and to see transportation safety from each other’s perspective. Learn the similarities and differences in their respective planning processes, discipline-specific strategies used for improving road safety, and collaborative approaches.
Learn how to identify potential safety issues on the road. This module includes real-world examples and the road safety audit process.
Understand the safety analysis process. This module covers traditional site analysis and systemic analysis to identify crash factors and countermeasures
In collaboration with the Northwest Tribal Technical Assistance Program (NW TTAP), PacTrans WDI has put together an online, easily accessible, set of Road Safety Champion Program training courses.
